Breathe, Sleep and Live Better - Be the best version of you!
This program is designed for anyone who feels they are not getting quality sleep related to dysfunctional breathing. If you snore, if you mouth breathe, if you wake with a dry mouth, if you toss and turn all night, if you are tired during the day, then it is worth further investigation into your sleep.
Quality sleep is essential for a healthy life. Myofunctional therapy for adults can address a wide range of problems. Unfortunately, because this age group is no longer growing, we cannot impact growth. However, we can restore as much normal function as possible. This means nasal breathing, sleeping quietly with lips closed, eat speak and move freely without face and jaw pain, improve facial tone and appearance, minimize tooth clenching and grinding.
It is exciting to see a growing awareness about the importance of quality sleep. Sleep is how our body refreshes and rejuvenates for the next day. Did you know that our brains go through a nighttime cleanse to eliminate toxins. Poor sleep has been linked to many chronic health conditions even Alzheimer disease.
How to Measure Sleep
The best way to measure your sleep is with a sleep study. There are different options for sleep studies and they can be done in your own home. However, a lab based study has more measurements and still accepted as the best. There are many things measured in a sleep study and if you are always tired, a study can give you valuable insight into your sleep. When sleep studies first started, it scientists were only interested in apnea events (ie if you are stopping breathing). Sleep apnoea has serious consequences and its really important to get a proper diagnosis. If you are concerned, speak to your GP. However, if you have had a sleep study and no apneas were detected, there can still be indications of poor breathing that can be corrected with myofunctional therapy.
Snoring
Apart from being a little embarrassing, snoring is still turbulent airflow and difficulty breathing at night. It can contribute to waking with low energy, altered concentration and mood (not only for you but bed partners can also be affected). In this program we measure your current breathing pattern, apply the right breathing technique for your needs, use myofunctional exercises to improve muscle control and tone of the lips, tongue and upper airway which allows you to breathe calmly and quietly and through the nose with your lips closed. The tongue is up and forward and out of your airway. It takes time, commitment, effort and training but the benefits of quality sleep are worth the effort.

This is for you if:
You are sick of snoring, mouth breathing, waking with a dry mouth, always waking to go to the toilet, frustrating bed partners with your incessant noisy breathing, tossing and turning. You are lost as to how to address or change this problem. You are motivated to apply home based exercise techniques to train your body toward improved breathing and upper airway function.
How Does it work?
We start with an initial consultation and an in depth discussion about your sleep. We assess your facial structures and how you are moving and breathing. We measure your breathing so we understand which techniques will be more suitable for your needs. We work out the best way to measure and track your progress. In a perfect world, I could give you an exact time frame to kick this problem for good. The difficulty is that different people have a different starting point and a wide range of health issues, facial structures and lifestyle factors that mean each persons program can vary greatly. Once we have more information which is uniquely you, we can discuss and design how far you want to take this. Some people choose to work slowly and others are high intensity and move fast. It really depends and the most important factor is for you to achieve your goals, however that needs to happen.
